Konnie was our
very first homebred Kalnovitch Samoyed. She was an amazingly gorgeous
biscuit-coated girl, with a superb temperament. She wasn't by any
standards a 'show stopper' however she did nearly make it to her title
before being withdrawn from showing...'I will show for you mum, but I
don't really love doing it'!
Konnie
taught me everything I needed to know to show a Samoyed well and in
every day life Konnie was my very own angel. She loved her
morning coffee and toast, and was an avid sunbather. Her favourite place
ever would have to be the park, where as a youngster she would spend
hours with me (also a youngster!) playing on the slides and the swing,
and even on the rugby field with the rugby players!
After an
agonising realisation that Konnie was finding it more and more difficult
to walk without hobbling, and a noticeable difference in her happy-going
nature, we made the devastating decision to let Konnie go. Nearing the
big 12, and with the onset of Winter we didn't feel it fair on Konnie.
With a breaking heart I took Konnie for her final flaunt down at the
park, a trip that I filmed, footage that I can't watch even now without
bawling my eyes out!
The following is
what Mum wrote to announce Konnie's passing: "...Kalnovitch
Katinka, slid into her Mum's hands on 18th of July 1992, left Michelle
and Glenda on 10 May 2004.
Beautiful Kon
took her last breath cuddled by Michelle today, loved from her first
breath to her last by her.
She was
Michelle's teacher in all things, from the show ring to life itself,
always Michelle's guardian on walks, ever on her guard when they went "walkies",
a lover of the kiddies playground, on the missing list more than once,
always found at the playground with the kids, begging noisily for a
swing or slide.
Never destined
to be a mum herself, was always the "maiden aunt" who babysat when the
dam went outside or wanted "time out".
As we let her
slip away today, we said, 'She is with her beloved Mikki now'..."
...Konnie, my
beloved 'right arm', everything I have always loved and admired about
the Samoyed breed - she is missed so dearly and will always be
treasured...
