Our
dear Anoushka (Snowraker Bianca) joined our family in 1991 after Mum fell in love with a
friend's little bundle of fluff. We went and visited a litter that
had been advertised in the local paper. Despite being poorly
socialised and running away from us, Anoushka was selected by virtue of
being "the cutest" and came home. We were so proud!
Anoushka was
shown, and although she was actually a reasonably sound Samoyed, she was
quite nervy. We bred Anoushka, producing our delightful Konnie -
the mother hen!
Konnie
(Kalnovitch Katinka) was a
gorgeous, nicely sized white and biscuit girl. She was very
nearly titled, despite being handled by complete novices! I would
practice religiously with Konnie, she taught me so much and I simply
adored her. Konnie didn't have any massive wins or anything like
that, but that never lessened how much I loved her. I still
remember like yesterday her first "big win" - a reserve challenge from a
bitch lineup of three!!!!
Realising that
Konnie just wasn't cutting it, Mum did a lot of research on the breed,
deciding we needed something established to base our lines on.
Mikki (Murmansk Tomsk) joined our family.
Mikki - our big
gentle bear was an absolute delight to live with. He was a pain to
show though, being completely mischievous; it was definitely never easy
showing Mikki! Mikki sired a litter to Anoushka, and Sasha, our
first Kalnovitch superstar was born.
Sasha
(BIS CH Kalnovitch Nova Katya) was our first Champion Samoyed, she
titled easily against some of the very best in New Zealand. Sasha
was a multiple Best of Group winner, and she was an absolute dream to show.
We tried in vain to breed from Sasha, but it just was not to be..
We repeated this
mating, producing Czarda - Kalnovitch Janenka. A lovely girl with
a fabulous temperament, we have bred from Czarda twice and she has
produced two champions. Czarda's progeny all carry the "Mikki"
stamp, with the boys carrying that lovely strong head that Mikki had.
We imported from
Australia in an attempt to introduce new lines to New Zealand and
further solidify our direction. Unfortunately, Pippa appeared more
wolf-like than Samoyed and was totally unsuitable for breeding or
showing.
Some
things are just meant to be, and while we were considering our future
direction, we took up the offer of a show puppy from Sandra Stewart of
Skrownek Samoyeds. The puppies were bred at Kursharn Samoyeds, and
as we were pulling up the drive I distinctly reminded mum that we needed
another dog "like we needed a hole in the head". A little girl
puppy caught mum's eye, and she came home with us. This little
girl was particularly determined to bond with me, and so it was that our
partnership was born. Kaitlyn had one "gear" specifically reserved
for me in the ring, that didn't include biting on the bum or trying to
trip me up!
Two years after
Kaitlyn arrived, our first litter in four years arrived. Czarda
(Kalnovitch Janenka) had been sent to NZ CH Moonsnow Shilo (Imp Aust)
producing one girl and two beautiful boys. We kept Czaah (RBIS CH
Kalnovitch Nova Kasiniia) from this litter; Czaah has been a consistent
winner, and is an absolute dream to show.
